Policy Agenda

DSICA is active in many areas of alcohol policy and taxation reform.

  • Labelling

  • Energy RTDs

  • Pre-mixed alcohol and energy drinks are convenient but controversial. Banning them will simply cause heavy pre-loading of the energy components.

  • Alcopops Tax Hike

  • The Australian Government increased the tax on RTDs (alcopops) by 70 percent in 2008 with the aim of reducing underage drinking. It has not worked and should be repealed.

  • Alcohol Tax Reform

  • Australia's alcohol taxation needs reforming so all consumers and producers are treated equally. The Henry Tax Review shows how.

The content of alcohol advertisements and their placement in Australia is tightly regulated under the ABAC scheme.
